this will be the next payment to retirees

Retirees who applied for Social Security benefits before May 1997 and had a birth date between the 1st and the 10th received their retirement benefits yesterday. While some seniors have already cashed their benefits, other retirees will soon get new Social Security payments.

Every year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) releases a Social Security payment schedule to inform beneficiaries of all financial assistance programs about the exact date they can expect their monthly payments. According to this schedule, retired workers payment dates are scheduled to be mailed based on two factors:

  • Full Retirement Age (FRA): You are eligible for the full retirement benefit at this age. It gradually increases for those born in 1938 or later.
  • Birth date: Your payment will be due on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month, depending on when you were born.

The SSA provides the retirement schedule to keep beneficiaries informed and help them plan their finances, eliminate any uncertainty about when to expect their monthly check or direct deposit, and encourage transparency by providing a clear explanation of the Social Security benefit disbursement procedure.

Social Security payments are made on a regular schedule

The Social Security payments are distributed in four rounds. The first round sends payments to SSI beneficiaries and retirees who claimed Social Security benefits before May 1997. After that, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will send three payments to retirees and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries, depending on their birth dates.

  • 1st day of the month: SSI beneficiaries
  • 3rd day of the month: Retirees who claimed Social Security benefits before May 1997
  • 2nd Wednesday: Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 1st and 10th
  • 3rd Wednesday: Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 11th and 20th
  • 4th Wednesday: Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and 31st

Upcoming Social Security payments for retirees

The next Social Security payments for retirees will be on March 20th and 27th, as explained below:

March 20th: Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 11th and 20th

March 27th: Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and 31st

Please remember, that if your check doesn’t arrive in time, you should wait at least three mailing days before contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA). How much money will American retirees receive in March?

Here you can find the most likely payment amounts for retirees this month. Keep in mind that Social Security payments depend on several factors and your unique circumstances.

Social Security benefits Social Security payments
Retirement program Average: $1,900

Age 62: $2,710

Age 67 (Full FRA): $3,822

Age 70: $4,873

On average, retirees will receive $1,900 in monthly payments this month. That amount, however, may differ based on the age at which they file for Social Security benefits. For example, in 2024, their maximum payout would be $3,822 if they retired at full retirement age (FRA), which is approximately 66 or 67. However, retired workers will only be eligible for a maximum monthly payout of $2,710 and $4,873, respectively, if they choose to file claims until age 62 or 70.

Furthermore, retired workers should be aware that the 3.2% rise in Social Security benefits for March is a result of the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that was announced a year ago. Keep in mind that the amount determined for each individual may vary depending on a variety of circumstances, including their age at retirement, the amount they contribute to Social Security, and the length of time they have been a contributor.
