Sting has been a part of AEW for over three years and is presently involved in a substantial storyline expected to conclude with his retirement this week. Following his retirement, Sting has now revealed his plans for the future.
In case you missed it, Sting is slated to have his final match on March 3rd at AEW Revolution 2024. The WWE Hall of Famer is scheduled to team up with Darby Allin to defend their AEW Tag Team Championships in a tag team tornado match against the Young Bucks.
While speaking to Bleacher Report, Sting talked about his post-retirement plans. For many wrestlers, retiring from in-ring competition doesn’t mean leaving the business entirely.
Some transition into roles like agents, producers, trainers, on-screen managers, or commentators. Some even open their wrestling schools while still active. The Nightmare Factory is a prime example. However, Sting has never aspired to be a behind-the-scenes figure. This is partly because his initial goal was not to become a professional wrestler.
“I have never had a desire to do that,” Sting said. “I’ve always marveled at the guys who could hang out as a manager or an agent. I’m different. I didn’t know what pro wrestling was when I started. I didn’t know who Hulk Hogan was. I had no interest in breaking into pro wrestling. And even after Rick Bassman tried for weeks to get somebody, I just didn’t have any interest.”
Outside of wrestling, Sting has cultivated a passion for real estate, an interest he has had even before his time as a wrestler. He intends to continue pursuing real estate while also using his platform to share his faith, aspiring to be a positive influence.
“Like Arnold who made money in real estate before he ever started making movies, I made money in real estate long before I got into pro wrestling,” He said. “Real estate is always something I have been interested in. The buying and selling of houses and dirt is a good thing.”
“I’ve been outspoken about who Jesus is to me and the fact that I’m a born-again Christian and a believer since August of 1998 when my life changed drastically overnight. I’m lucky, blessed, that I’m alive. I should not be here.”
Sting will also main event the AEW Revolution pay-per-view on March 3rd. The types of Sting-related footage AEW can use at Revolution have also been revealed. It remains to be seen how his retirement match will turn to this week.
