A man has revealed his plans to sue his own mother after she told him she was ‘deducting $35,000’ from his inheritance to cover ‘religious expenses’ of having priests pray for his dying father.

The unnamed man, believed to be from the US, has taken to Reddit‘s notorious AmItheA**hole forum to ask whether he would be in the wrong if he escalated the family feud.

He explained that his dad had died last month and he is set to receive $100,000 plus his ‘portion of the life insurance money.’

However, his mom informed him she is going to be deducting $35,000 from her son’s share ‘to pay for religious crap,’ in the man’s words.

The post was titled: ‘AITA for starting legal dispute and refusing to use my portion of inheritance to pay for my mom’s religious crap?’

She’s spent tens of thousands of dollars on priests praying and donations to churches. I thought it was going to be out of her pocket, not my inheritance,’ he fumed.

‘I said f**k no, I don’t believe in that crap and why should I give half my inheritance for her religious beliefs? I argued and just as usual, she would refuse to admit any wrong doing and cried like a damsel in distress.

‘She started recording me and kept saying I’ve no shame and I’m no son of hers,’ he continued, aghast.

‘Whatever, I leave and tell her that I better have my money by the end of the week or I’m going to start contacting lawyers.’

The man added that his mom ‘posted the whole thing on Facebook and now everyone thinks I’m some evil selfish brat.’

At the same time, she is yet to give him the portion of inheritance she withheld without his permission, and he claims to have found a lawyer who will take his case.

Hundreds of other Reddit users took to the comments to debate the ethics of the situation, with the vast majority agreeing that the son was NTA – or Not The A**hole.

‘Proceed with the lawyer ASAP before your mom writes a big check to the religious crap people, and your inheritance is gone gone gone.

‘And anybody that thinks you are an evil selfish brat? Well, they are free to give your mama all their money to give to the religious crap people. NTA,’ read one top-voted comment.

A second concurred, also offering an idea for how to respond to all the mom’s supporters on Facebook.

‘NTA. Here’s a way to respond to all her supporters on Facebook… invite them to collectively donate $35k out of their own pockets to your mother’s cause and see how quickly they shut up.

‘This is your money and it’s a pretty solid case against her if she doesn’t give you what you’re entitled to.

‘Definitely follow through with the lawyer. Hopefully she’ll be scared enough by the legal threats to cough up your $ without too much fuss,’ they stated.

As a third put it of the mom’s hypocrisy, ‘NTA. The bible says Thou shalt not steal and she is a thief.’

One person responded to that, voicing their agreement: ‘Came here to say exactly this. You can’t buy your way into heaven, and even if you could, you wouldn’t be able to do it with someone else’s money.’
