Gratitude is on my mind today, because we’re officially one week out from Thanksgiving (and because this newsletter and its writer will be off for the holiday). I’ve shared some of these articles before, but it always bears repeating: Gratitude is good for our brains, and it’s good for our businesses. It can reframe our thinking and help us overcome negativity bias. It can even raise our happiness levels!
And so, this Thanksgiving season, I’m ever thankful for those of you who are in the ForbesWomen community. The team and I would not be able to do our work if you were not actively working to bust gender and age stereotypes, increase the wealth that women hold, and use your creativity to start and grow businesses around the globe.
We also wouldn’t be able to do this work if you were not reading our coverage, watching our videos or attending our events… and so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued readership and interest.
Wishing you a restful and delicious Thanksgiving,
Maggie McGrath
P.S.: I’m also grateful that Covid, flu and RSV levels are, at the moment, at pre-pandemic lows. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that this trend is likely to reverse before Christmas and Hanukkah come around and recommends wearing masks in crowded areas, practicing regular handwashing and being up-to-date on Covid and flu vaccinations to avoid getting sick.

ICYMI: News Of The Week
American businesswoman and soccer club owner Michele Kang has pledged to give U.S. Soccer $30 million, the largest-ever philanthropic investment in the organization’s girls’ and women’s programs. The donation will be deployed over the next five years.
Vanessa Wallace, a two-decade veteran of marketing functions at Nike, recently joined Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty as the company’s chief marketing officer. Wallace spoke with ForbesWomen editor Maggie McGrath about what it took to make a big professional leap after almost 20 years at one company—and also how she thinks about reaching consumers in an ever-fractured media environment.
A new documentary, “Beyond the Gaze,” is shedding light on Jule Campbell, the groundbreaking founding editor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. “She figured out how to navigate a 1960s sexist male work environment and created one of the most lucrative magazine issues in publishing history,” her daughter-in-law (and director of the documentary) Jill Campbell told ForbesWomen editor Maggie McGrath and 30/50 Summit vice chair Huma Abedin in this recent Know Your Value segment.
Women are deprioritizing their healthcare needs over the needs of others, often at a detriment to their own well-being. The newest State of Women Report from theSkimm found that a whopping 70% of millennial women struggle to put their health first, with nearly half routinely skipping preventative-care appointments.
The Checklist
1. Proceed with caution when it comes to app-based period trackers. In a post-Roe v. Wade environment, your period tracking data could be used against you. And if the president-elect follows the recommendations of Project 2025, even more reproductive surveillance could be in our futures. Proceed with caution.
2. Overcome the perception of being ‘overqualified’ for the job. Overqualified job seekers can effectively address employers’ concerns by positioning themselves as valuable, growth-oriented candidates who are genuinely excited about the opportunity to learn and contribute in a new role. Start by clearly communicating your motivations for applying to the position.
3. Understand the “hushed holidays” trend. In an era of “quiet quitting” and “quiet vacationing,” is it any wonder that some members of corporate America may be partaking in a “hushed holiday” this winter? Here’s what you need to know.
