SHEBOYGAN — After more than 30 years of service to the City of Sheboygan, Department of Public Works Director David Biebel and City Engineer Ryan Sazama announced their retirement Wednesday.

Biebel has worked for the city 37 years, during which his leadership and expertise have left a mark on the city’s infrastructure, development, growth of projects and more to ensure the well-being of Sheboygan residents, a news release from the city said.

Sazama’s attention to detail and innovative solutions have played key roles in enhancing city infrastructure during his 31 years with the city, the release added.

“David and Ryan have been integral parts of our city’s progress, and their retirements mark the end of an era,” said Casey Bradley, city administrator, in the release.

“Their wealth of experience, dedication and leadership have left an enduring legacy, and the City of Sheboygan is immensely grateful for their decades of service,” Bradley added.

Sazama’s retirement is planned to take effect March 1 and Biebel’s April 1.

Biebel said in the release it’s been rewarding to be a part of so many projects and enjoy the benefits of those projects with residents of the city.

“I am grateful and humbled to have been able to serve the community that I am proud to say has been my home since childhood,” he said. “Furthermore, it has been a pleasure to serve with many past and present dedicated city employees working to improve our community and provide quality services.”

He said after more than three decades serving the city, Biebel made the decision to take time to be with friends and family and enjoy other interests.

“I am looking forward to this next chapter in my journey,” he said.

Sazama said in the release it’s been an “honor and privilege” to serve the city and residents alongside an exceptional team. He said he’ll always carry the experiences and memories of this time.

“It has been a profound honor to contribute to the growth and development of Sheboygan, particularly through the design and implementation of crucial infrastructure projects that have supported new developments and improved the quality of life for our residents,” he said.

Mayor Ryan Sorenson said in the release he extends his “deepest gratitude” to both men for their outstanding service, commitment to fixing roads and shaping city infrastructure.

“On behalf of our entire community, I wish them a fulfilling retirement and express heartfelt appreciation for their enduring contributions,” he said.

“While challenges may arise, we are motivated by the opportunities that new beginnings bring,” she said in the release. “I express sincere gratitude to both David and Ryan for their steadfast dedication and years of service to the city. May their journeys ahead be filled with exciting new ventures.”
