London – December 12, 2024 – Forbes today unveiled the 2024 Midas List Europe, the definitive ranking of the top 25 venture capital investors in Europe and the Middle East, in partnership with TrueBridge Capital. This year’s list signals a shift for the regional VC landscape, with a record number of top investors based in Germany making the list. Meanwhile, the list is becoming increasingly less London-centric and, while the company investments that helped investors make the list are largely consistent with last year, AI deals are starting to have an impact.
“Set against a turbulent geopolitical backdrop, this year has seen a record number of listees based in Germany, Poland and Czechia, highlighting the growing influence of Central and Eastern Europe in the global VC landscape,” said Forbes Senior Editor, Iain Martin. “We’re witnessing a changing of the guard as forward-thinking investors across the region grapple with new realities and spearhead new ideas.”
Notable highlights from this year’s list include:
· Pavel Chudzinsky of Point Nine Capital takes the top spot for the first time.
· The list continues to become less London-centric as Europe’s tech economy grows. While there are still 13 London-based investors featured, notable new additions include Ondrej Bartos of Credo Ventures, who is based in Prague, Czechia.
· There are a record number of investors based in Germany, or who have a link with Germany. These include Pawel Chudzinsky (Point Nine Capital), Klaus Hommels (Lakestar), Filip Dames (Cherry Ventures), Robert Lacher (Visionaries Club), and Jeanette zu Fürstenberg (General Catalyst).
· AI deals are starting to have an impact – notably Mistral, Elevenlabs, Helsing, and 11xAI – however the companies that generated the highest returns for investors remained largely consistent with last year’s list, including Stripe, Revolut and DoorDash.
Midas List Europe is a metrics-driven ranking of the best venture investors in Europe and the Middle East. With this list, Forbes and TrueBridge recognize those investors who have earned the best returns for their limited partners – that is, their companies have gone public, had an M&A transaction, or raised rounds of financing at an increased valuation.
